Starting Wednesday, an 89-day ban on burning of agricultural waste and other waste is in force in all 13 districts of Lampang, until April 30, to help prevent the annual severe smoke haze polluting the air in the northern province. (Photo by Aswin Wongnorkaew)LAMPANG - Fire bans were imposed in all 13 districts of this province on Wednesday, lasting until April 30, in a bid to prevent smoke haze from forest fires and burning of agricultural waste polluting the air. After the ban ended there was extensive burning-off in the province, causing severe smoke pollution. Agencies in all districts had been put on full alert, ready to douse any forest fires. Forestry officials, soldiers, and volunteers and would join fire teams dispatched to put out forest fires as soon as they were detected.
